Urgent vehicle alert: Jeep, Audi, VW, and more recalled

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an urgent call to South African motorists to check whether their vehicles are affected by a widespread product recall involving several major car brands. The recall impacts various models from Jeep, Chrysler, Citroen, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, and Volvo.

Jeep Wrangler and Chrysler 300c models sold between 2014 and 2016 are being recalled due to faulty Takata airbags that could rupture and send metal fragments into the vehicle during deployment — potentially causing serious injury or death. Citroen C4, DS4, and DS5 models from 2009–2016 are facing a similar risk related to airbag inflators.

Mercedes-Benz has recalled CLA (118) and S-Class (model series 223) vehicles due to defective brake hoses which may leak over time, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of accidents. The recalled vehicles were produced between 2020 and 2023.

Audi’s E-Tron GT is also affected due to high-voltage battery cells that may overheat, presenting a significant fire hazard. Only 46 units are affected, produced from October 2021 onwards.

Volkswagen has issued a recall for VW Polo Sedan vehicles released after April 2, 2025, due to rear seat belt latch plates that may fail in the event of hard braking or a collision.

Lastly, Volvo XC90 models manufactured between 2020 and 2022 are being recalled due to a high-voltage battery issue that could lead to overheating and, in severe cases, a thermal event.

Consumers are urged to contact their nearest authorised dealerships for immediate inspection and repairs. Safety must come first — check your vehicle today.
