Breakfast bedlam: Parky gets a call from the past
Some characters are too big to stay quiet for long—and Ryland Poggenpoel is one of them. This morning, the self-proclaimed moving mogul burst back onto HOT Breakfast, phoning in with his signature blend of chaos, charm, and completely questionable credentials. What unfolded was a hilarious collision of old grudges, new ambitions, and 87 Nissan Champs.
Ryland claims he once moved Parky, his wife Karen, and seven other families from Mossel Bay to Johannesburg in the back of a single Nissan Champ. Now, decades later, he’s ready to do it all again—this time with a full fleet and a dream of a multi-Champ convoy tearing down the N1 in perfect formation. Whether it’s legal, logical, or remotely necessary? That’s beside the point.
Listen to Ryland's call here:
True to form, Ryland brings up a long-forgotten debt, reminding Parky of some roadside repayment involving Madison Red cigarettes and vague favours. It’s all part of the strange and strangely compelling world Ryland inhabits—where business pitches sound more like folk tales and logistics are driven by loyalty (and lunacy).
Just before the team wraps the show, Ryland makes one last push: “Over the wall, under the fence or through the…” It’s unclear how the sentence ends, but somehow it makes perfect sense in his world.
Parky and Bunny never stood a chance—this was Ryland at full throttle.
